life
Mom’s finally well enough to go outside for extended periods, so I drove her to Safeway to get some groceries. Partways through, I saw a Starbucks, so I stopped by to get a matcha latte. Not five minutes later, I forgot it at the self-checkout, two sips in. I’m such an idiot.
currently craving:
- a cappuccino or three from Syra Coffee in Sol, Madrid
- zhajiangmian from Xi’an Famous Foods in Fidi, NYC
- Hainan chicken rice from Rooster and Rice beside the Paradigm office in SF
Played a few hours of badminton at UCalgary, was great.
clothes
I got super bored and bought some fancy clothes from… Japan? I don’t even know how but I found out about this site where you can buy from Japanese webstores and have it proxy-shipped to you. I’ve been a fan of Menswear guy for a while, and he often yaps about Japanese workwear and how they have some great Americana-inspired clothing from the likes of Visvim and Engineered Garments. And that shit SLAPS. It looks a bit more put together while not being overly formal, and being low-effort (I hate having to put tons of active thought daily into what I wear). It wasn’t cheap, but it’s stuff which will last a lifetime (and which I can probably resell in SF if I don’t like it for a minimal loss, so it’s fairly risk free). It’s kinda stupid that a bunch of twitter threads and listening to podcasts led me to spend way more money on clothes than I would have otherwise, but whatever…
Here’s some fits with the stuff I bought. I tried to get some varying known Japanese brands (h/t to ChatGPT for suggesting, although in hindsight, not sure why I cared at all about brands…)
This olive green shawl collar jacket from Visvim:

A navy unstructured cotton """blazer""" from Engineered Garments:

And army fatigue pants from A Bathing Ape:
